 This installation of Sunda’s vacuum tube technology in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY., is the first commercial use of vacuum tubes in the metropolitan area. The system comprises 80 Seido-5 tubes which will provide domestic hot water and heating throughout the year. A high solar fraction of approximately 50% is anticipated by using radiant floor heating throughout the space along with a high efficiency modulating boiler. The vacuum tube technology offers several advantages over flat-plate collectors in the city: higher operating efficiencies in the winter help boast the percent of the solar fraction; light weight and ease of replacement dramatically streamline problems of delivery and servicing on top of buildings in New York City; this system was designed and installed by Quixotic Systems Inc. and HVAC Alternatives Inc. |
